Meet Marie Conley: Bringing a Community Perspective to Main Street Rx

When we talk about healthcare innovation, it’s easy to focus on the science. But there is a far bigger story that goes beyond the people in labs and factories that are being built. Of course, first and foremost, there are the patients seeking better outcomes and their families searching for hope. But what often is forgotten are the communities, businesses and workers that benefit from the companies fueling Pennsylvania’s innovation.

That belief is what drew me to this role with Main Street Rx in Pennsylvania.

I bring more than a decade of experience across business, government and nonprofit sectors. I started my career as a scheduler and grew into roles in campaigns, public service and leadership. That path taught me something that still shapes every project I take on: progress only means something when the whole story reaches the people where they are, at the local level, through genuine connection and kindness. That is where Main Street Rx comes in.

Much of my work has centered on expanding opportunity. I have worked alongside elected officials, nonprofit and higher education leaders, and employers to strengthen workforce pathways and support communities as they adapt and grow in an ever-changing environment. At its core, that work has always been about the impact to Pennsylvanians, and the systems that shape their possibilities.

A life-changing health diagnosis deepened that perspective. It reinforced how much access to care influences everyday life and underscored the importance of making systems work in practical and empathic ways, not just for patients but their families too. It also clarified where I want to have the greatest impact, which is a big part of why I’m invested in Main Street Rx. With recent investments in Pennsylvania from the biotech industry and with my past experiences working with this industry, I was excited to be part of Main Street Rx.

As someone who believes in the power of storytelling, I am especially interested in the local stories that reflect how healthcare innovation shows up in communities in ways that are not always visible: the small business owner welcoming new guests, the employer building a strong local team, the restaurant owner welcoming new regulars and the families that are able to build a greater future close to home.

In my role, I focus on building partnerships, engaging communities across Pennsylvania and ensuring the stories we tell reflect the real people living them. That starts with listening, truly listening, to understand how experiences show up locally and bringing those perspectives forward in a way that is grounded in truth.

That same perspective shapes how I live my life. Spending time with family, visiting my son at college, sharing coffee with friends: these are everyday reminders of what strong, connected community looks like, particularly as someone navigating life with a rare disease, and of why this work matters.

This role brings together the defining threads of my career and personal experience: a commitment to community, a focus on opportunity and a belief in the power of lived experience.

I am looking forward to continuing to engage with communities across Pennsylvania to ensure their voices inform and shape this important work.
